Abraham Low pioneered
in the treatment of mental and nervous disorders,

in the effort to emancipate the patients and their families from the stigma of mental illness.
His concepts, now recognized by many as far ahead of their time, anticipated currently accepted modes of treatment.
Low is best known as the founder of Recovery, Inc., which makes available the system of self-help after-care that he developed for the purpose of preventing relapses and chronic illness in those suffering from nervous and mental disorders. This time-tested system, offered by hundreds of weekly group meetings across North America and overseas, delivers a low-cost, community-based adjunct to professional care.

The Abraham A. Low Institute promotes the study and dissemination of the work of Abraham Low and explores applications of his work to alternative areas of society, such as families and adolescents.
